Trentino and Belchatow claimed second victories in their pools. Both teams are qualified for the semifinal of FIVB 2009 Men’s Club World Championship.
Italy’s Trentino BetClic came from one set behind to clinch an incredible 3-2 (24-26, 25-23, 24-26, 25-19, 15-11) victory over Zenit Kazanin the second day of Pool A. The victory gave Trentino one of the semi-final tickets in Pool A leaving Zenit Kazan and Zamalek to compete for the second ticket when they meet on Thursday. Zamalek twice rebounded to win an exciting five-set match against Plataneros of Corozal 3-2 (23-25, 25-13, 23-25, 25-14, 21-19).
PGE Skra Belchatow secured the first semifinal ticket in Pool B and the second of the FIVB 2009 Men’s Club World Championship following their second victory of the tournament after beating Paykan in straight sets 25-22, 25-18, 25-17 on the second day. Belchatow improved their win-loss ratio to 2-0 to equal that of Trentino BetClic that qualified for the semi-finals earlier from Pool A, while Paykan dropped to 1-1.
Cimed of Brazil came from one set behind to claim a 3-1 (18-25, 25-17, 25-17, 25-22) victory over Al Arabi. The victory improved Cimed's win-loss ratio in Pool B to 1-1 while Al Arabi dropped to 0-2. Thiago Alves was the catalyst behind Cimed’s victory with an incredible match high of 20 points and crucial plays at critical moments in the match.
