Partizan v Spartak Ljig 3:1
In the last match of round one played overnight, the black and whites of Partizan Belgrade defeated Spartak in an entertaining match played in front of 700 people at the Sports Hall in Sumice.

Partizan won the first set with relative ease 25:11 but Spartak who didn?t have faith in themselves come fighting back in the second to level the match at 1:1 winning the set 22:25. The determined Spartak side never gave up and proved its worth taking the favourites Partizan to the wire in the next two sets. Partizan took the third set 25:22 and the fourth to seal the match 25:23

Spartak won allot of fans for their performance but the Black and Whites of Belgrade must improve if they are willing to challenge for the title. Interestingly this was the third consecutive time that Partizan beat Spartak by the score of 3:1.

Partizan can prove it?s capable of more in the next round in the Derby match against Vojvodina on Thrusday.

Red Star Belgrade v Radnicki 3:2
The opening game of the season was a repeat of last years final when Radnicki took out the title, only this time Red Star won in a five set rollercoaster match at the Sports Centre in Sumice.

With a totally new team Radnicki consolidated play and didn?t let Red Star come close taking out the opening set 18:25

At the beginning of the second set Radnicki continued with their good play taking an early lead (8:4) until Red Star came roaring back thanks to mistakes in Radnicki?s defensive game. At the end of the set the defending champions never gave up and came back from three points down to equal the score but the Red and Whites settled their nerves to take out the set 25:23 and equal proceedings.

In the third set Red Star dominated from the start and controlled the entire set to take a 2:1 lead, the set ended 25:20 and Radnicki?s game began to fall.

The fourth set it was a different story as Radnicki came out with all their guns with the tables turning as they were in control this time taking the set 25:20 although Red Star didn?t give up near the end forcing the defending champions to play some great volleyball.

In the deciding fifth set Red Star came out more confident after the poor performance in the fourth set and held their heads high to take out the match. After leading 8:4 the Red and Whites easily ended proceedings 15:10 and gave their team a morale boosting win on the opening day of the Weiner Stadtische Liga.

Vojvodina v Mladi Radnik 3:0
Title favourites Vojvodina easily accounted for Mladi Radnik at Spens Hall in Novi Sad.
Mladi Radnik won in last seasons opener when the two sides met but this time Vojvodina wasn?t as careless and didn?t give their opponents any hope winning in straight sets 25: 18, 25:21, 25:22.

Vojvodina take on rivals Partizan on Thursday in what should be a blockbuster match.

Smederevo Ribnica 3:1
Smederevo took the points at home in four sets after a poor start to the match losing the opening set 13:25. In the remainder of the match Smederevo treated their fans with great volleyball taking out the match 3:1, winning the last three sets 25:18, 26:24, 30:28. Ribnica pushed the hosts and is looking like uneasy opponents this season, winning points against them will be hard earned this season. Smederevo played in their new home the Smederevo Hala.
