germany volleyballJaroslav Skach, Berlin 2005
Right person to describe volleyball league in Germany is J. Skach, he has got a great experiences about the volleyball over there.

Competition

How many teams play in the competition? How many go lower, how many come up?
12 teams, 2 go lower directly, 1 plays barrage. From the second league 2 come up directly, 2 play barrage
Which system do you play? ( basic part, play-off, play-down )
There is quite strange system here. In order to improve level of the competition the better teams donīt have to play twice with the worse teams. In the first part every team plays with each other ( probably to the Christmas ) but just once ( I donīt know the system who plays at home and who abroad, probably in accordance with the last season placing ), then the teams divine into 2 groups and every team plays with each other again, this time at home and abroad. The first part table teams are in the play-off and 2 teams of the second part complete them and then classicaly 1-8,2-7 and so on. First two bouts at two winning matches, final at three!
When does the competition start, when does it finish? How many matches a week?
The competition starts in the beginning of October ( this time 9th October ) and the fifth final match is 7th May. We play once a week- at the weekend and sometimes on Wednesdays.
Matches on TV? What time do the matches start?
On the local TV they screen just shots of Masters League. Beginning about 11pm. They plan to screen final cup but I donīt know more about it.
Visit rate of matches?
Champions League and the Friedrichshafen 2500 ( and nobody else get in ). Leage average about 1200 people.
Level, quality of league, legionaries are ( maximum number ) ?
I have counted about 35 ( the most of Yugoslavians ). I think there is not any limit for foreigners because if it were, Friedrichshafen couldnīt play- they have 9 foreigners. First 2 teams are in good level ( the last year we had just losses betwen us and everybody just one loss abroad then 5 teams are in the same level that they are able to defeat each other and we can enjoy the matches with them but usually we win! And the rest is shit! Although I think they improved compared to the last year.
Which balls do you play with?
Mikasa
Cups: How many teams are in the LM, CEV and the other cups?
2 teams are in the LM - SCC Berlin, Friedrichshafen, 2 teams are in the CEV - Wuppertal, Duren
WWW pages where I can find the statistics?
www.volley.de, there are not the any statistics but just some information and record
How many stars would you evaluate the competition? 1-bad, 5-the best
I donīt know how to evaluate it. Sure itīs worse than ITA, FRA, RUS, I donīt know much about Polish but it is comparable with Belgian or Spanish and sure itīs better than the Czech.

Traveling

Departures to matches?
Plane or bus, always a day before
Maximum distance, length of journey?
For us-Friedrichshafen 800 km. the most of clubs about 500 km
Infrastructure, quality?
Everywhere motorways are first-rate.
How many stars would you evaluate the traveling? 1-bad, 5-the best

Clubs

Do they give or pay:
A car?

Mostly youīll get if you want
A meal?
At hotels and on journey itīs payed out. During the week if you are at home you take your own meal.
An accomodation?
Itīs payed out for foreigners, natives mostly pay it themselves but itīs not automatic for them.
Clothes?
Somewhere youīll get more, somewhere less, but we canīt complain.
Vitamines and food adjuncts?
The same.
Language school, teacher?
I didnīt hear about something like this anywhere.
What about rehabilitation, doctors, masseurs?
Also this is different. We have massage twice a week and there is also at disposal the sauna for us. Also we can go to physiotherapeut of to doctor whenever we want. In all the clubs where I have ever been it was the same.
How many stars would you evaluate the clubs? 1-bad, 5-the best
I think thereīs nothing to complain but always it can be better.

Money

Average season pay?
About 30 000 Euro netto
How much does the best star get?
I think about 70 000 Euro netto
Average pay in the country?
I think something about 1400 Euro netto a month
How many stars would you evaluate the money? 1-bad, 5-the best
Of course always thereīs not enough of this!

Life

How much difficult is the language to learn?
After 2 days you can badmouth and after 3 month youīre able to talk.
Life style, entertainment?
They are fairy able. Some of them stink of alcohol to the afternoon. These young still play the playstation.
Women and their charm?
Itīs not the same as at home (in Czech), in the cities itīs quite good in the towns itīs tragedy.
How much is 1/2 l of known beer in the restaurant? ( Budweiser, Heineken... )
2,50 - 3 Euro
How much is 1 km by taxi?
Entrance 2,50 Euro, 1 km about 1,10 Euro
Climate, hot or cold?
The same as at home
How many stars would you evaluate the life? 1-bad, 5-the best
The same as all the cities in the world. P.S.:The best in it is when Iīm free Iīm at home in Prague after 4 hours!!
