The last game last night set face to face Vakifbank and RC Cannes in one of the derbies of the third leg. The sports hall in Istanbul, packed with thousands of volleyball fans, witnessed a disappointing loss of their heroines. Underestimated RC Cannes managed to steal a four sets’ victory, on the court of the pool’s favorite, cementing therefore their position as winter leader, with 7 points (1-3: 23-25, 25-23, 24-26, 25-27).

Although Sheila Castro and Milena Rasic topped the scorers’ charts on hosting side, with 18 and 17 points respectively, they could not stop the amazing teamwork on the French side: Sanja Bursac (15 points), Nneka Obiamaka Onyejekwe (14 points) and Logan Tom (12 points), Ebata successfully replacing Faucette, an inspiring Mareen Apitz serving them, the incredible defense of the French libero Deborah Ortschitt and the devastating serves of Ilka van de Vyver who managed to bring RC Cannes the last points.

Impressive shutout for the French Riviera team who managed to take their revanche after losing qualification in finals last year against same Vakifbank, after a dramatic golden set. Nevertheless, things are getting hazy in Pool E, RC Cannes lead the group with 7 points, one point away from following Vakifbank, Nordmeccanica Piacenza only 4 points and underdogs Partizan Vizura Beograd only 1 point.
