The kings of the 2011 Beach Volley season Emanuel Rego and Alison Cerutti finally appeared in the news with a pair of gold medals. This was the first time in 2012 when the World champions won a Swatch-FIVB World Tour event final after defeating on Tuesday Nummerdor-Schuil from the Netherlands in straight sets (21-16, 29-27).

The 2009 World and 2011 European champions Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann won the 20th European Beach Volleyball Championship, held this year in the cold shores of Scheveningen, The Hague (Netherlands). Despite the hostile conditions the Germans took the final in straight sets versus the home heroes Emil Boersma and Daan Spijkers (21-17, 22-20) to repeat their success from the last year's championship in Kristiansand (Norway).
